July 1 Deadline for Hospitals to have Matching Addresses to Avoid Non-Payment

Posted in Hospitals and Institutions

As part of the implementation of site-neutral rule contained in the final 2019 Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) rule, effective July 1, 2019, the Centers  for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will start enforcing its exact match program requiring the addresses used by hospitals on their claims for services provided at off-campus, outpatient departments exactly match those entered for its Medicare enrollment of those locations. If the addresses don’t match with the enrollment address – even as minor as St. versus Street – hospitals will receive a return-to-provider notice. They will then have to work with their Medicare administrative contractor to resubmit the claims. The process could take some time, which may result in a temporary cash flow problem. Thus, now is the time to double check the addresses used on claim forms with the official address filed with CMS.
